Recycled Crayons

First off, I must confess that this is not my idea!  I've seen tons of pins on Pinterest where others have made these.  So, today I decided that we were going to tackle the big tub of crayons lying under the craft table.  It took Erin and I about half an hour to peel and sort the crayons into a sillicone muffin tray.

Once that was done, we popped them in a low oven (80 degrees celcius) until they were melted.  A note of caution:  the hot wax can really make a nasty burn on your skin so take special care if the kids are helping with this.

Once the crayons have completely melted, take them out the the oven and leave them to cool somewhere away from curious little fingers.  When the crayons have cooled and set, just pop them out the silocone mould and you're set to colour!

Altered Pocket Calendars

On a recent trip to Budapest, I found an awesome old fleamarket shop full of wonderful old treasures.  While I couldn't bring back an old typewriter or radio, I did pick up some old pocket calendars (some dating back to the early seventies) which I thought would be great to incorporate into a mail art project.

I created a digital image using a photograph and some textures.  After printing out copies of the images, I glued them to the calendars, rounded the corners, inked the edges and then modged over the whole lot.

While the cards were drying, I set about making some envelopes with my very cute assistant a.k.a. Erin (age 8).

Now all I need to do is address them so they're ready to mail out next week!
